Phocuswright Cares, Mercy Corps & Tourism Cares

In our ongoing partnership with Mercy Corps, Phocuswright Cares has pledged to support the relief efforts of the recent natural disasters in the United States.

Hurricane Maria has devastated Puerto Rico and pushed the island’s 3.4 million residents into a desperate humanitarian crisis. Nearly every home is without power, and clean water, food, medicine and fuel are all in short supply.

From earthquakes and tsunamis to hurricanes, Mercy Corps has responded to nearly every major natural disaster in the last twenty years. Its seasoned emergency response team on the ground is helping meet the urgent needs of vulnerable families. Working with local partners, they're providing cash cards that families can use to buy what they need most. Many people still don’t have access to clean water, so they are using the cash to buy water, food and other essential supplies. They are also working as quickly as possible to lay the foundation for recovery. Puerto Ricans are inspiring the teams with their commitment to building back better than before the storm, and Mercy Corps is moved to bring its global experience, expertise and contacts to the recovery and rebuilding effort.

Together, we can help people in Puerto Rico who are in desperate need.

The Tourism Cares tag #GiveBetterTogether is never more apt than when disaster strikes. Major natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and fires are occurring more frequently, often affecting tourism communities and livelihoods as seen recently after Hurricanes Maria, Irma and Harvey.

The Destination Disaster Recovery Fund  works with regional partners like the  Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association , the  Texas Travel Industry Association , and others to restore and improve tourism resources and infrastructure to maximize destination appeal and get people back to work.

Give today  and make giving to tourism recovery the perfect complement to your relief giving.

To bring this effort to our attendees, we've created a special session with Mercy Corps, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Tourism Cares and Travel Weekly.

Executive Roundtable: Tourism in a Time of Crisis
Whether the European refugee crisis and shifting geopolitics or devastating natural disasters, travel and tourism is often on the front lines. This roundtable will tackle how travel and tourism marketing organizations should navigate when a storm – of any form – hits close to home, and what is the role and responsibility of our industry when it comes to recovery.
