Barney Harford serves as non-executive Barney Harford serves as non-executive chairman of the board of directors of Lola, a chat-based travel planning service that offers customers personalized recommendations for hotels, flights and more. He serves as a board director of United Airlines, operator of the most comprehensive route network in the world, and LiquidPlanner, a dynamic project management solution for technology teams.

Barney served as CEO and board director of Orbitz Worldwide from 2009 to 2015. Orbitz Worldwide was acquired by Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE) in a $1.6B cash transaction that was announced in February 2015 and closed in September 2015. In the year prior to its sale, Orbitz Worldwide generated more than US$12 billion in annual gross bookings. During Barney’s tenure the company achieved strategic success in mobile, developing award-winning apps for iOS and Android; launched Orbitz Rewards, a simple and free loyalty program that offer traveler instant rewards; and built the Orbitz Partner Network into a leading provider of private label travel solutions to partners in the airline, hotel, travel agency and bank loyalty industries.

Barney previously served in a variety of roles at Expedia, Inc. from 1999 to 2006 including as President of Expedia Asia Pacific from 2004 to 2006, leading the company’s entry into China, Japan and Australia. Prior to Expedia, Barney worked in the United Kingdom as a strategy consultant with The Kalchas Group.

Barney also previously served as a board director of eLong, Crystal Orange Hotel Group (formerly Mandarin Hotel Holdings) and GlobalEnglish.

Barney is an active angel investor. His private company investments include Avvo, Base, Glassdoor, PlayFab, RealSelf, TurnKey Vacation Rentals and Ycharts.

Barney holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Master of Arts in Natural Sciences from Clare College, Cambridge University.
