Kathy Misunas currently serves as an advisor and Board Director to various public and private businesses, and acts as a principal of Essential Ideas, a consultancy specializing in the global travel and tourism, technology, distribution and on-line retailing fields. She has led various businesses in executive roles, most notably as CEO of SABRE, the global distribution company, SVP/CIO of American Airlines, and CEO of Reed Travel Group, the global publishing enterprise.
Since previously co-authoring a book titled Multi-Channel Distribution: The Essential Guide and supporting other published materials, her activities include speaking at travel and technology industry events, as well as guest lecturing at academic institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Cornell, and New York University. Additional advisory focuses encompass general business strategic direction, organizational behavior, governance, marketing and executive leadership.
Currently she is a Board Director at Tourism Cares, the non-profit dedicated to the long-term survival of the travel and tourism industry, and an advisor at ODYNN which provides rewards solutions related to loyalty programs using points, miles, and/or cash. Previous Director roles include TechData Corp (currently tdsynnex), Canadian Tire Corporation, ezRez Software (currently SwitchFly), id90, Travelocity and others.
Complementing her business initiatives, Ms. Misunas has participated on various councils such as the Executive Committee of WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council). She is currently active with the Gartner Research Board for Corporate Directors and is a former member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, as well as Women Corporate Directors.
Misunas volunteers her time with various charities and programs. For pleasure, she enjoys sports, travel, and has run many marathons and trekked dozens of mountains around the globe.
She resides in New York City.
